Halifax operates under an integrated policing model with both a municipal police force, Halifax Regional Police (HRP) and a contracted police force, Halifax RCMP serving the citizens of HRM.HRP is responsible for policing the urban core - Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford and all communities extending from Bedford to Sambro Loop. The remaining areas of the community are policed by Halifax RCMP.Members of both agencies work side by side in a number of integrated units, the Criminal Investigation Division, the HRP/RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit, the Courts Section, the Records Section and the Summary Offence Ticket Section.
