Looking for God in the Forest is a coming-of-age novel written both for and about the baby boom generation. The events that are dramatized in the novel were selected to provide a Zeitgeist, a touchstone, for the historical period of 1952 to 1963. The book is told as six stories in the life of its protagonist, Nels Sorenson, a Baptist kid from a blue-collar family.
